A must-read for high-level professionals looking to retire confidently, comfortably and successfully — soon!

Retirement planning has changed over the years. Gone are the days of relying on your employer to guide you into and through life’s next chapter. Now more than ever, the responsibility of retirement planning is on you.

A successful journey does not just happen by itself. To live the retired life you have dreamed about and hoped for, you must understand and execute a strategy for accumulating, protecting, and distributing your money properly. You must do so, all while preparing for risks along the way. You may think retirement is still a ways off, but it could come sooner than you think. Do not wait until it is on your doorstep to fully prepare. Waiting can be costly.

In Retiring Soon. Now What?, Paul, Luke, and Matt define the links between a myriad of financial tools and the strategies needed to manage them effectively. They cover topics such as investments, withdrawal strategies, Social Security, Medicare, debt, taxes, estate planning, and more.

Most notably, they share the PLAAN Method for successfully creating and implementing your retirement plan.

The PLAAN Method - Your Guide to Retiring With Confidence

  • Do you understand the difference between accumulation and distribution?
  • Is your investment strategy built to last?
  • Do you have enough money saved for retirement?
  • Is your money in the right places?
  • Are you worried about how you will spend your time, find your purpose, and adjust to your new lifestyle?

Do you have a plan for:

  • Taxes
  • Social Security
  • Medicare
  • Debt
  • Your Pension
  • Your Estate
  • Spending down your nest egg
  • What if life throws you a Now What? moment?

We have developed a smooth and easy-to-remember approach to retirement planning. The PLAAN Method is a framework for navigating the many decisions and curveballs that inevitably arise in this stage of life.

P: POSITION

This is the data-gathering part of the process. In order to get from here to there, you first need to figure out where here is.

L: LIFESTYLE

This involves discussing and clearly defining what you want life to look like. This is imperative prior to figuring out what it will cost.

A: ANALYSIS

You cannot do much about your situation if you do not understand it. Are you currently on pace to achieve what you need and want? What do you need to do differently? What do you need to start doing? What do you need to stop doing?

A: ACTION

A plan is only as good as its execution. The Position, Lifestyle, and Analysis stages are vital, but they are only intellectual exercises unless Action ensues.

N: NOW WHAT?

Life moves at a very fast pace. Health changes, family changes, job changes, and tax law changes incite constant Now What? moments. Thus, plans need to be flexible and adjustable.

Why Now?

As you approach retirement, the volume and importance of financial decisions increase.  The decisions you make in the last five years of your working life, as well as those in the first five to ten years of retirement, have a huge impact on the longevity and success of your financial situation.  The impact of those decisions - good and bad - will be felt in years to come.
